Ministries

At Wylie United Methodist Church, we have many opportunities to get involved. Our ministries encourage our own spiritual renewal and growth so that we can reach out to our community and our world and truly be instruments for Christ.

Adult Ministries

Sunday School

Adult Sunday school begins at 9:30 on Sunday morning. Listed below are the current classes and where you can find them. There are no criteria for joining our Sunday School classes. We encourage you to visit several classes until you find a "fit" that is right for you.

Wednesday Night Bible Studies

Each Fall on Wednesday nights, we offer both men's and women's Bible studies. These begin at 6:30 p.m. and offer us a chance to really study God's word in depth. Prior to the studies, we offer a light meal in the fellowship hall so you don't have to worry about hurrying through dinner before coming to the church.

College and Career Ministry

On Sunday evenings, Martin and Lucy Dawson host a Bible study and fellowship at their home for young adults in college or early career. This group called "Elim" gets together for food, fun and informal Bible study. Anyone interested can contact the Church office for more information (1-325-698-3409).

Youth Ministries

The Youth program at WUMC includes students in grades 6 all the way through 12. We meet each Wednesday night (upstairs in our awesome youth room!) and join in worship together, and then conclude with a devotion. The times for Wednesday night are listed below:

On Sunday mornings we continue to learn how to be disciples by helping with KidZone for the first half of Sunday School and then concluding with about a 30 minute study. We meet in room 213.

Also, we participate in various activities around Abilene, including fundraisers and fun events (paintball, bowling, etc). Finally, we take occasional trips like church camps, mystery trips, and mission trips on which we have a lot of fun while growing in Christ. We hope you join us!

Children's Ministries

The Children's Ministry at WUMC encompasses kids from infants through 5th grade. Nursery is provided for infants through age three at all church related events. Children's Church is available for those ages three through six during the Sunday morning worship service.

During Sunday School the children ages 1st through 5th grade enter "KidZone" where they experience God through Bible studies, interactive games, and hands-on learning experiences.

Wednesday night programming is conducted for kids in 1st-5th grade, with activities and games at the church while the parents are in Bible study.

In the summertime, we have a week-long Vacation Bible School as well as many opportunities for kids to attend summer camps. Throughout the year there are lots of other activities where kids can have fun, be creative, and grow in faith and love. Check out these pictures of some of our kids in action!

Mother's Day Out and Preschool

If you need a little help occasionally as a busy mom, our Mother's Day Out and Preschool program is just what you need. We have a program for children, Walking through Pre-K, where we offer a special time of play and learning while you get a chance to catch your breath or run some errands. You can choose Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. to noon or Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Please contact the church office for pricing and other information.

United Methodist Women (UMW)

We are a group of women of all ages who meet the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Some of our projects include garage sales, Palm Sunday meals, contributing to the church building fund, teams to provide food and other needs for church members and others in need, contributing to the "Upper Room" booklets, refurbishing the church kitchen, helping out with bible school snacks, providing snacks for college kids taking final exams, and many other fun things! At meetings, we all take turns providing a snack and presenting a short devotion. We welcome "inactive" members who just want to fellowship with us at our meetings.

His Hands

His Hands ministry is an outreach ministry designed to help those in need. We are Jesus' hands! Remember, the only thing that matters is faith expressing itself through love. Join us to show the love of God to those who are hurting and in need. We have completely built a home for a needy family, helped refurbish a home that was badly damaged by a flood, and went on a Mission trip to Mexico in March of 2007 where we helped to build classrooms for a community there. We are currently involved in outreach with the St. John's Baptist Church to help revitalize the Carver neighborhood.  Click here for photos of some of our projects.

Food Pantry

The Methodist Church provides a food pantry to needy folks. Along with other area churches, Wylie United Methodist helps to stock the shelves of the Food Pantry. We currently have a commitment to provide donations of cereal, crackers, and peanut butter. There is a drop off box located in the Fellowship Hall for any food donations.
